Ancient Festivals in Cornwall
As the name suggest, this ancient festival is a testament to Cornwall’s deep connection to nature! Flora Day is held annually on May 8th, which
marks the arrival of spring and of course, the much anticipated blossoming of flowers across the Cornish countryside. During the Flora Day festivities, the streets of Helston are filled with floral decorations, spiritual processions and the much-loved rythmic sounds of traditional Cornish folk music!
One of the most well-recognised aspects of Flora Day is the traditional dance known as the ‘Furry Dance’. The Furry Dance is a type of folk dance between two partners – which is one of very few ancient British tradtions that has lived on to this day. The Furry Dance commences at several
intervals throughout the day, and so, regardless of what time of day you arrive in Helston, you are sure to spot the colourful dancers weave their
way through the streets.
We believe that the infectious energy of the dancers, accompanied by fantastic performances from local musicians, makes Flora Day a truly magical experience for all those staying at Atlantic Coast Holiday Park!
