Highlights of the West Cornish Coastline

Atlantic Coast Holiday Park is ideally located for those looking to explore the wonders of the coastline whilst on holiday in West Cornwall. With rugged cliffs, untouched sandy beaches, and charming seaside towns, this stretch of coastline is well renowned for its natural beauty and rich history. Read on to discover our handpicked highlights of the West Cornish coastline to visit whilst on holiday in Cornwall.

Coastal Towns

The coastline here in West Cornwall is filled with plenty of charming coastal towns that truly showcase this county’s unique character. We highly recommend visiting one of our neighbouring towns of St. Ives. St. Ives is best known for its vibrant art and stunning golden beaches, which have gone on to inspire many artists and writers over the years - such as the likes of Barbara Hepworth!

Alternatively, Padstow is another delightful town to visit whilst on holiday in Cornwall. This charming fishing port has plenty of independent shops and eateries across the harbour and town centre. Arguably Padstow has been made rather famous for its seafood because of the world-famous chef, Rick Stein, who opened his self-named flagship restaurant in Padstow in 1975.

Historic Landmarks

The West Cornwall coastline is home to many must-see historic landmarks in Cornwall. Such landmarks include Tintagel Castle, Port Issac and Bodmin Jail.

Tintagel Castle is a medieval castle which has often been associated with legends such as King Arthur and round table. Although we’re afraid you may not spot Merlin during your holiday, we can assure you that you will have a magical experience as you wonder around the ruins of this once great castle.

Port Isaac is a 14th century fishing village, which you may recognise from TV shows such as ‘Doc Martin’. Here you may find yourself spending a day exploring the narrow winding streets and whitewashed cottages. Whilst visiting Port Isaac, we recommend that you pop into The Cornish Cove Tearoom for a sweet home-baked treat.

If you’re interested in the unusual, then you may thoroughly enjoy a day out visiting Bodmin Jail. Located in rural town of Bodmin, Bodmin Jail is a former 18th century prison which in recent years has been reconverted into a museum. Here you may discover the dark and twisted history of crime and punishment during the enlightenment era in Cornwall.

Beaches in West Cornwall

If you’re a lover of beach holidays, then we guarantee you’ll love a holiday on the West Cornish coastline. Here at Atlantic Coast, we have a fantastic range of West Cornish beaches that are easily accessible from our holiday park. Mexico Towans Beach is one of the closest beaches to us at Atlantic Coast.  This fantastic three-mile beach is spotlessly clean, making it hugely popular amongst surfers, swimmers and sun bathers.

If you are looking to travel further afield to make the most of the West Cornish coastline, we highly recommend driving half an hour to Perranporth Beach. Once arriving at this beautiful beach, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the expansive sandy shores, take a dip in the fresh waters or enjoy a few rounds of beach games with your family.
